To quote the mind of Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber, "So you're saying there's a chance?" Yep. That's exactly what I'm saying. In fact I'm saying that Georgia has a big chance to beat Alabama this Monday in the National Championship game. It didn't take long for pundits to ask whether or not Georgia could win against the college football leviathan. Alabama shut down the Clemson rushing attack by dominating the line of scrimmage, and the Tigers were also unable to throw the football which led to Alabama's dominance.
There are some major difference's between Clemson and Georgia which leads me to believe this will be a different game for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide., but that's just one of the differences between the Tigers and the Dawgs.
One difference is that Georgia's running game is the best in the country. They have TWO #1 running backs, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel who are capable of going to the house every time they touch the ball. Chubb scored the tying touchdown, and Michel the game winner against Oklahoma. That's not the really scary part. Freshman D' Andre Swift is also capable of the big run and is the fastest of the three. Swift averaged over 8 yards a carry, but was a non-factor in the Rose Bowl. There is a lot more to worry about with Georgia.
Another is Jake Fromm at quarterback. I'm a Kelly Bryant fan, but Clemson is going nowhere if he can't throw them back into a game. Fromm was steady and made big throws when he had to against the Sooners. His poise and presence helped keep Georgia from getting rattled when down 17 in the first half.
Georgia's defense is better than Clemson's. As David Pollack would say, Roquan Smith is a grown man. He made so many big tackles in the second half it made you wonder if he was the only player on the field. It was truly dominating, and he can definitely have the same impact against the Tide. Let's not forget that Alabama's offense wasn't cruising up and down the field against Clemson. Two Clemson turnovers changed the game.
Georgia has a better offense than Alabama, so I think whichever team makes the big plays on defense will win the game. The turnover battle will be critical because possessions will be very important. I'm not saying Georgia will win the game, but I'm saying there's a chance. A good one, although the Saban factor is very real. I have a difficult time picking against him.
