Navy Football....of course

It figures the first post on this blog will be about my beloved Navy football team. After starting the season 5-0 I felt good that we hadn’t played well, but we won all five games so we were in good shape. What I didn’t realize at this point was that besides Florida Atlantic, who we played in head coach Lane Kiffin’s first game with the school, the rest of the schedule was very weak. Florida Atlantic found their groove and had a nice season, but they weren’t there in September.
We committed five turnovers in a 30-27 loss at Memphis and that was a harbinger of things to come, and finishing with back to back false starts in a snow storm against Army. The miscues put kicker Bennett Moehring out of field goal range, and he still almost made it. Navy lost to Army for the second year in a row, 14-13. We finished the regular season an abysmal 6-6.
Today was everything I expect from Navy football. We played with a ton of energy and enthusiasm. Navy was faster, quicker, more aggressive and physical that Virginia. Winning 49-7 is always great, but it was a nice way for the season to end. I know Virginia is rebuilding, but it’s still nice to beat an ACC team. So happy to end this wacky season on a real high note.

I’m proud of the way the team bounced back, and played aggressive and physical the way we expect Navy football to be played. This was the team I hope we can look forward to going into next season. When you throw a healthy Tre’ Walker into the mix next season we will be more dynamic. Navy football is in a great position going into 2018. I’m already looking forward to next season. Go Navy!
